Frame Study - The Modern Times

Hello readers! Here, I am going to Write down an another blog. This Particular blog is inspired by Dr.Dilip sir barad in order to understand the setting of the 20th Century. This blog is also a part of our thinking activity.

Charlie Chaplin's both the movies :-

   1. ' The Modern Times ' ( 1936)

   2. ' The Great Dictator ' ( 1940

Serves a great Purpose for the better understanding about the setting of the 20th century. Both the films discuss about the Critique upon Industrialization, rich - Poor divide, Materialistic richness and many more things  which Charlie Chaplin has  presented in his films through his comic way during those times.

Frame Study - ' The Modern Times '

Charlie Chaplin :- Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was an English Comic actor, Filmmaker, and Composer who rose to fame in the era of Silent film. He became a world wide icon through his screen persona. He considered one of the film industry 's most important figures.

Charlie Chaplin worked with a children's dance troupe before making his mark on the big Screen. His character - ' The Tramp ' relied on Pantomime and quirky movements to become an iconic figure in the silent film era.

 ' The Modern Times ' :-

' The Modern Times ' - 1936 an American silent film written and directed by Charlie Chaplin. This film is all about a great critique upon Industrialization and a factory production line worker is thrown out on the street for his manic behaviour.

On 7th December - Thursday we had a movie screening of two great films by Charlie Chaplin - ' The Modern Times ' & ' The Great Dictator '. Movie screening was organised by Dilip sir Barad - Department of English.

     ' What is Frame Study :- '

In cinematography, Framing refers to the 'way elements are arranged in the Frame.'

In Frame is the term used by Screenwriters to indicate the entrance of a Person or the thing into a framed shot. So Frame Study one of the important element in film screening.

    Frame : 1 ' The Clock :- '

The movie begins with the Frame of a Clock. Clock is the Symbol of industry. In the film Clock and Calenders are used as Symbols. It shows that how clock Controls the lives of human beings that Charlie Chaplin has Presented very well in this film.

 Frame : 2 ' Mind v/s Muscle Power '

This Frame suggest the true Struggle between mind V/s Muscle Power. Those who had Strength and Muscle Power force they can easily ruled the nation during 20th Century. So one can understand that muscle power was considering as main and it was also rulling during those times.

    Frame : 3 ' Control :- '

This Particular Frame in the movie suggest that how CCTV camera keeps control on everyone and everything. In Free time also no one allows to sit once for a while. Due to this one's Privacy and free time keeps no longer.

Dangers of camera Satirize by Charlie Chaplin. It clearly shows the Use of machines and mechanization in a very wrong way.

   Frame : 4 ' Hunger ' :-

It was the Period when Poverty was there in America. People have to steal the food for their Day to day living. It shows the Poor condition of people of America during 20th century. But at the Same time we also need to understand that if People have steal the food in such a way than how far the Society or government responsible for that.

        Frame : 5 ' Imagination V/s Reality' :-

This Particular Frame in this movie suggest about the Imagination and reality. They both imagined about their happy life. They dreamed of it. But the bitter truth was that the reality was totally different from what they have imagined or dreamed.

  Frame : 6 - ' Sheep + People ' :-

Charlie Chaplin 's movie - ' The Modern Times ' display the classic example of dehumanisation in such a way.

This Frame in the movie shows the crowd of sheep passing through the congested way and the scene is changed with workers in the Place of sheep following the same path. This follows the first way with which the human beings are dehumanized. They are compared with the animals.

  Frame : 7 - ' Mechanization of man ' :-

This Particular Scene in the movie suggest and poking fun at industrialization. This scene with the most laughs. This Frame in the movie shows that they value Production so highly that they will compromise the Worker's free time and convenience by automating their lunch process.

So , This is how Charlie Chaplin used satire by saying that the ' Use of machines and mechanization in a very wrong way. '

Frame : 8 - ' Unemployment ' :-

During that time, People were on the strikes. Many people who were unemployed and they did not find any Jobs or works to do. They were against the governments. Accidentally In the movie Charlie Chaplin became the leader of the group.

Using this Frame Charlie Chaplin Satirizes on Joblessness and Unemployment of People in America during that time. It shows that how People had to suffer a lot because of their unemployment.

                  Frame :- 9 ' Recommendation letter '

With the help of this Frame , we can understand that By the recommendation letter Charlie Chaplin got the job at various places with the help of that only one lage letter. But, if we compare it with today's time we can easily understand that people have to face so many problems and difficulties in finding a Job. In today's time we can not trust someone very easily. We always have a doubt in our minds.

During that time, one letter can help person in getting a good Job. But, Now a days we have so many degrees still we are unable to find a Job.

  Charlie Chaplin Satirizes on Present time and Present situation by saying that ;

' No Value of  so many Pages..'

So that is how one can compare the situation of contemporary time and the time of 20th century which Charlie Chaplin Satirizes it in his film - ' The Modern Times ' in a very proper way.

                      Frame : 10 ' Hope ' :-

  The movie ends with this Frame. This Frame suggests that In hopeless Situations, there is still some hope. What is important is that we always have to try. Because that try never goes waste. In last part of the movie girl became sad and she says that ;

  ' What's the Use of  trying? '

But Charlie Chaplin told her that Be happy & always have a smile on the face. We always have to find a ray of hope in everything. So , again they both started their journey. That is how movie ends with this Frame , with a good and Positive message at last.
